‘Samia walks the talk’

ACADEMICIANS and political analysts have commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan recent three-day visit to Mwanza region, saying she is walking her talk of proper implementation and supervision of the country’s development projects.
President Samia was in Mwanza between Sunday and Tuesday, where she held a number of activities including launching Bank of Tanzania (BoT) Mwanza branch, Mwanza Precious Metals Refinery (MPMR) factory as well as mega water project in Misungwi District.
She also launched the Mwanza South Port Slipway inspection area, besides inspecting the ongoing construction of the Magufuli Bridge as well as laying a foundation stone on the proposed construction of the Mwanza-Isaka 341km Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
Moreover, while in Mwanza President Samia addressed Tanzanian youths at the meeting held at the Nyamagana Stadium.
During her stay in Mwanza, President Samia in all her events affirmed the government’s tireless efforts to completing the ongoing strategic development projects as well as coming up with new ones for the national interests.
Speaking to the Daily News yesterday, an Assistant Lecturer at the Mzumbe University- Morogoro, Mr Jerlum Kilumile said that President Samia’s tour has expressed the government’s firmness on executing all development projects as listed in the government development plan and the ruling party-CCM’s manifesto.
“She has also earned a nod from the youth of Tanzania through the meeting she held with the youth in Mwanza,” he pointed out. Already, President Samia has addressed elders (in Dar es Salaam) women (in Dodoma) and youths.
“She has promised to include a good number of youths in her upcoming appointments, this should be considered as a challenge that the youth should embrace unquestionable levels of honesty, hardworking and diligence,” he observed.
His observations were seconded by the University of Dodoma Lecturer Dr Paul Loisulie who said the tour was part of implementation of the President Samia’s slogan ‘work goes on.’
“In deed she is walking the talk, the Head of State is pushing for national development through speedy implementation of the projects,” he said.
The scholar noted that, Mwanza was a crucial spot in all aspects in Lake Zone regions; she has earned a political legitimacy. During her speech President Samia appealed to Tanzanians to pay tax to keep the country’s strategic projects afloat.
Speaking before laying a foundation stone on the proposed construction of the Mwanza-Isaka SGR project, President Samia rallied Tanzanians to be patriotic enough and pay tax to enable the government execute its mega projects.
She stated categorically that a great deal of the projects was being implemented through internal funding, hence the need of paying tax to the government.
“I urge all Tanzanians to pay tax lest such projects get stalled midway and the country misses out on its economic targets,” observed the President.
Elaborating, the Head of State called for the removal of red tapes delaying the implementation of Mchuchuma and Liganga projects, saying it is high time the projects take-off.
The President said there is a need to establish the reasons behind the delay of the strategic extractive projects, saying the government would not hesitate to act if the investor is incapable of implementing the projects.
In another development the Head of State reaffirmed her resolve to empower the country’s younger generation socially, economically and politically to ensure they play a vital role in the development of the nation.
She said youth empowerment is among top agendas of her government.
President Samia maintained that the sixth phase government would spearhead the welfare of youth by providing them with relevant platforms for leadership positions, business opportunities, covering social and develop- ment aspects.
