Mr. Fidelis Omhonria, the father of the two year-old boy, Ivan Omhonria, who was shot by some officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) after being picked from school, has narrated how his son died.
According to a report gathered by BBC Pidgin, the deceased’s father said, “immediately my wife told me my son had been shot, I quickly ran to the area of the incident. When I got there, I saw some men on a van which has ‘NDLEA’ written on it. I told one of them that one of their gunshots killed my son. In response, he cocked his gun and demanded for my phone (which I was using to film them).”
Narrating further, the father said, “it was after some time one of the officers told me it was a mistake from their end. They told me the gunshot happened when they were chasing some guys. We eventually went to the hospital together but I want justice for my deceased 2 year-old son. As we speak, my wife and second son are still recuperating after being treated at the hospital. My wife actually fell into shock due to the incident.”
In a statement released NDLEA’s Spokesman, Femi Babafemi, “the agency’s director general, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (Retd), has set up a panel to investigate the incident. Also, Mr. Marwa assures the family and the public that they will get to the bottom of the case and take necessary action(s).”
